    We set up "notifications" to alert the player when they have picked up or dropped an item. These notifications can stack as multiple items are picked up, and display multiple types of items at any one time.

    Inventory Setup | Farming RPG Tutorial: GMS2 [P14]

    In this tutorial, we implement the foundations of our inventory system. Once again we make use of our favourite data structures, ds_grids, to set up two important grids: one which stores information about the player (their name, gold, silver, copper) to display in the inventory, and the other which stores all of the items. Our good friends the enum and repeat loop also make return appearances.

    The inventory is constructed to be as flexible as possible: any number of slots across any number of rows and columns may be set up using our system.

    Today we begin our day/night cycle, implementing a basic "time counter" and having our crops grow at the end of the day. Towards the end of the video, we fix a few bugs.

    In the next video, we will continue the day/night cycle and implement a lighting system that will allow us to outline different "phases" of the day - night, sunrise, day, sunset - all with their different lighting colours.

    We implement a "depth system" to our game world. When we walk *below* an object, we appear in FRONT of it. When we walk *above* an object, we appear BEHIND it. Once again, we use ds_grids to accomplish this, as well as parent/inheritance.

    However, I have made some tweaks for the Farming RPG. And although it's part of this series, all the objects/code we are writing in this episode is standalone, so it should work as part of any game.

    Making Crops Persistent | Farming RPG Tutorial: GMS2 [P10]

    Today we make our crops "persist", though without using GameMaker's built in "persistence". Instead, we create yet another data structure to store the crops we want to persist. We save the crops, (their location and characteristics) at the end of the room, and then respawn a crop with those characteristics when re-entering the room.
